Welcome to Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Literacy and
Education (ICOLED). The proceedings are a collection of papers presented at the 1st International Conference on Literacy and Education organized by English Language Education Department, Faculty of Language and Arts, IKIP-PGRI Pontianak held in the Rectorate of IKIP-PGRI Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, from 24th through 25th September 2019. The theme of the conference is Exploring innovations, opportunities, and challenges in Literacy and Education in the era of industrial revolution 4.0.

The proceedings consist of 19 selected papers covering issues of language
teaching, teaching media, teaching approaches and methods, curriculum, character education, and early childhood education. Hopefully, the papers would give benefits to the readers around the world.

I would like to express my gratitude to the authors, editorial team and
reviewers for their professional contributions for the proceedings. I also would like to thank the lecturers, staffs, and students at the English Language Department, Faculty of Language and Arts, IKIP-PGRI Pontianak who had made the 1st International Conference on Literacy and Education came into being.
